Are You Born Again? - Steps to Salvation

1.         Every person must be born again to know God and have everlasting life.

John 3:3 “Jesus replied, ‘I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.’”

John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

2.         The reason we must be born again is found in Rom. 3:23:

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

3.         Eternal life is a gift from God. You cannot earn it on your own.

Rom. 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Eph. 2:8-9 “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”

4.         Being saved or born again is receiving Jesus as your Lord (Master) and committing yourself to follow His Word (the Bible).

Rom. 10:9,10 “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.”

5.         Are you ready to make this life-changing commitment?

Pray according to Rom. 10:9,10

6.         You are now born again, forgiven and on your way to heaven. This is the beginning of your life as a new creation.

2 Cor. 5:17 “. . .anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

Now What?

1.         In order to live a powerful life as a believer, you need to renew your mind.

Rom. 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

a.         Reading the Bible is important to your growth.

Rom. 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.”

b.         Getting together with believers regularly is vital.

Heb. 10:25 “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”

2.         It is important to be baptized in water as a believer.

Acts 10:48 “So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. . .”

3.         Being filled with the Holy Spirit is a gift God gives you. You need His power in order to live the Christian life God wants you to live.

John 14:26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

4.         If you ever have doubts about your salvation, fill your mind with the truth of God’s Word about your standing before Him.

a.         1 John is a great place to start!

1 John 5:13 “I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.”

b.         Let times of doubt remind you of God’s grace and mercy.

Titus 3:4-7 “When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”

c.         Use times of doubt as a challenge to live for God.

John 15:8 ESV “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.”

Philippians 2:12-13 “Dear friends, . . .Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”
